Abstract

Femicide is the women´s homicide because of their condition of being a woman, it is the most severe consequence of gender violence. At the global level, until a few years ago it was an ignored, minimized and invisible phenomenon, but due to current social changes, the empowerment of women both individually and collectively, with new legislation that protects Human Rights as a priority, with emphasis on gender violence; femicide as a crime has achieved greater visibility, extreme vigilance and immediate responses from society.

In Manizales, there is a knowledge gap about ¿what is the prevalence of the crime of femicide in the last 10 years and what factors characterize it? The research aims to characterize femicide in Manizales between 2008 and 2017.

The research is descriptive, the population amounts to 187 women who have been victims of violent death in events that occurred in the municipality of Manizales, Colombia and the selected sample was 43 women victims of homicide whose characteristics fall within the concept of femicide.
