Ethmoidal hemorrhage as a new sign of drowning is presented. Two hundred thrity-three drowned autopsied at forensic Pathology Section of the Department of Legal Medicine of Costa Rica, between January lst., 1970, and December 31, 1976, are analyzed. The importance of this sign was demonstrated in putrefied bodies and skeletal remains, in which single or combined with Niles's temporal hemorrhage, was positive in 90.2% of cases. The ethmoidal hemorrhage was more frequent in young drowned an in victims who died in turbulent waters.
